Cornwall Hospitality Hacks 2019 Awards – Terms and Conditions (Terms)

By submitting an Awards entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms.

This is a contract so please read the Terms carefully.  This contract includes limitations of liability and of your rights and remedies.  If you do not agree to these Terms please do not enter the Awards.

  1. The Promoter

The promoter is: THE PRODUCTIVITY GROUP (t/a Be the Business) a company registered in England and Wales limited by guarantee whose registered office address is Kemp House, 152-160 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX with company number 10754958 (BTB).

  1. The Awards
    • The title of the awards is Hospitality Hacks Cornwall – Awards 2019 (to be referred to as Awards).
    • Subject to clause 1 the Awards are open to public and private hospitality businesses who operate in Cornwall, and individuals working at those businesses, including in-house service providers (including but not limited to administration, finance, maintenance and marketing), in the following sectors:
      • Hotels;
      • Guest Houses;
      • Leisure;
      • Tour Operators; and
      • Rental Accommodation.
    • The Awards consist of the categories as set out in more detail in Schedule 1 (Award Categories). There is an Award for an individual and the business they are employed by or are related to, per category.
    • The prizes for the Award Categories are as set out in Schedule 1 (Prizes).
    • Non-cash Prizes cannot be substituted for cash. Prizes are not negotiable or transferable.
    • BTB does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the Prize.
  2. How to enter
    • The competition will run from 12:00am on 6 December 2018 (Opening Date) to 11:59pm on 31 January 2019 (Closing Date) inclusive.
    • Entrants are required to enter the Awards online by submitting the online entry form provided on hospitalityhacks.co.uk (Entry) by the Closing Date.
    • All Entries to the Awards must be received by BTB by no later than the Closing Date. All Entries to the Awards received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified, unless waived by BTB at its sole discretion.
    • To begin making your Entry you will need to go through the step-by-step process, completing the relevant information necessary to your Entry and following the criteria on the requirements for each stage of the process as outlined on the online entry form within the designated word count. Entries cannot be returned.
    • No purchase is necessary and there is no charge to register for use of the website.
    • BTB will not accept:
      • responsibility for Entries to the Awards that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
      • proof of transmission as proof of receipt of Entry to the Awards.
    • By submitting an Entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms.

    • The BTB terms of website use (https://www.bethebusiness.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Terms-of-website-use-FINAL.pdf) (Website Terms) also apply to your use of the online entry form and/or the BTB website.
    • In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Website Terms, these Terms shall prevail.
  3. Eligibility
    • The Awards are only open to residents in the UK aged 16 or over, and to hospitality businesses that meet the criteria as set out in clause 2, except:
      • individuals and businesses working in the gambling or personal services sectors;
      • employees of BTB or its holding or subsidiary companies;
      • employees of agents or suppliers of BTB or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the Awards or its administration; or
      • members of the immediate families or households of the categories listed in clause 1.2 and clause 4.1.3.
    • In entering the Awards, you confirm that:
      • you are eligible to do so and able to provide proof of your eligibility if requested by BTB;
      • eligible to claim any Prize you may win;
      • you are not infringing any intellectual property rights of a third party;
      • you have the appropriate consents and sign-offs from your business, employer or manager, where appropriate;
      • the information contained in your Entry is not business sensitive, proprietary or confidential information; and
      • any financial or business information used as evidence of commercial success or growth is accurate and auditable, and able to be confirmed by an auditor’s certificate if required.
    • Agents are permitted to submit Entries on behalf of individuals and/or businesses providing they have their express written consent. BTB may require such entries to prove such written consent.
    • By making an Entry you acknowledge and understand that your attendance (or attendance by a representative) is required at the awards ceremony on 26 February 2019 (Awards Ceremony) should you be shortlisted as a Finalist (as defined below). In the event that a Finalist is not in attendance at the Awards Ceremony, BTB reserves the right to allocate the Award and Prize to another Finalist.
    • BTB will not accept Entries that are:
      • automatically generated by computer or made in bulk;
      • illegible, illegal, or have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with; or
    • Subject to clause 5 there is no limit on the number of Entries per Category for each individual or business. Joint submissions are not permitted.
    • BTB reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the Awards.
    • BTB reserves all rights to disqualify Entries that use bad language, offensive imagery or reference any other brand or business without their express written consent.
    • BTB reserves all rights, at its sole discretion, to disqualify Entries, to refuse entry to the Awards Ceremony, or refuse to award a Prize to anyone where there is any reason believe that that person is in breach of these Terms.
  4. Judging Awards
    • The Entries will be reviewed by a panel of three (3) BTB employees. Once all Entries have been reviewed a shortlist of five (5) entries in each Category will be made and shared with the judges (Finalists).
    • The Finalists will then be judged by a panel of three (3) judges. Judges are appointed on a voluntary basis and are required to act with the upmost professional integrity. The decision of the panel of judges at their absolute discretion will be final and binding.
    • BTB reserves the right to withhold an award in any Category or shortlist fewer Finalists at its discretion should there be insufficient Entries of sufficient merit.
    • BTB reserves the right to change the judging panel or process without prior notice to you.
    • BTB reserves the right to right to combine, rename and restructure any of the Categories at any time during the Entry and judging process if the number of Entries of sufficient merit received does not allow for fair competition.
    • A list of names of the judges can be viewed at the offices of BTB as set out in clause 1 from the Closing Date for a period of ten (10) days.
    • The guidelines for judging the Entries are as set out in Schedule 1.
  5. Awards Ceremony
    • Entrants will be informed by email on 11 February 2019 should they be shortlisted as Finalists. Please note that only Finalists will be notified. If a Finalist does not acknowledge such notification within seven (7) days, BTB reserves the right to withdraw that entrant’s right to the judged as a Finalist.
    • BTB will announce and list the Finalists online at hospitalityhacks.co.uk.
    • Finalists will receive a formal invitation to attend the Awards Ceremony. The venue details of the Awards Ceremony will be located at hospitalityhacks.co.uk.
    • Finalists will need to arrange their own travel arrangements to the Awards Ceremony. These expenses will be at the Finalist’s own cost and will not be reimbursed by BTB.
    • BTB and any third parties involved in the Awards Ceremony will not be responsible if the Finalists are unable to attend the Awards Ceremony due to any reason, including but not limited to unforeseen circumstances or travel delays.
  6. Winners
    • The decision of the judges nominated by BTB is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
    • Winners will be announced during the Awards Ceremony.
  7. Limitation of liability
    • Whether you are a consumer or a business user: Insofar as is permitted by law, BTB, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate you or accept any liability for any loss as a result of entering the Awards or accepting a Prize.
  8. Ownership of entries and intellectual property rights
    • All Entries submitted to BTB will become the property of BTB on receipt.
    • By submitting your Entry you shall:
      • assign to BTB with full title guarantee all intellectual property rights in the Entry; and
      • waive all moral rights in and to your Entry and otherwise arising in connection with your Entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.
    • You agree that BTB may at its discretion make your Entry available on its websites hospitalityhacks.co.uk and www.bethebusiness.com and any other media in connection with the publicity of the Awards.
  9. Publicity
    • The entrants shortlisted as Finalists agree to take part and assist with any reasonable promotional activities or PR supporting the Awards and/or the Awards Ceremony and consent to their name, photograph, short film and any other related media being used for such purposes.

  1. General
    • BTB reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the Awards or the Prizes where it becomes necessary to do so.
    • These Terms are governed by English law and you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in the English courts. If you live in Scotland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in either the Scottish or the English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
  • Award Categories and Prizes

Award Categories

  1. Best customer service hack
  • This is awarded to practices which directly impact the business’ relationship with the customer. These can range from putting in place better tracking to understand the customer condition, to implementing a business practice which saves customers time.
  • The goal of this section is to uncover the practices which make customers happier and spend more within the business.
  1. Best kitchen & catering hack
  • This category is specific to food related hacks within hospitality businesses. Entrants will work in a kitchen or catering service and have found hacks, which range from, implementing a new system of passing orders from front of house to the kitchen, to creating a seasonal kitchen to lower the cost of produce.
  • The goal of this category is to uncover practices which make the business of food cost and time efficient
  1. Best logistics & maintenance hack

(Admin, finance, logistics and maintenance)

  • This category is dedicated to back office methodologies, property and physical systems. We are looking to find new processes and systems in place that make hospitality businesses run faster and cheaper. Suitable hacks include a new way of storing guest’s luggage, a more energy efficient system or even a methodology for figuring out which hotels in your area have capacity.
  1. Best digital hack
  • This category is dedicated to digital and technological innovations in hospitality businesses. If you’ve put iPads in the rooms for guests to order breakfast so that it’s ready when they get downstairs or you’re using app and smart light to cut costs, then this is the category for you.
  1. Best people motivation hack
  • Simply put, this is a human resources category. We’re looking for hacks that see seasonal employees returning to businesses time and again and retaining staff to your business – these could range from a new system of training, to interesting perks and methodologies of keeping staff motivated on the job.
  1. Best marketing & promotions hack
  • Hacks that make the marketing, sales and promotion side of your business, cheaper, faster and more efficient. Example hacks include, the entrant using technology to better target the customer or creating a new customer offer or partnership.
  1. Most innovative hack
  • This category is dedicated to great ideas that make a big difference. Have you come up with a service that stops getting wet when travelling from the car park to the reception when it rains, or figured out an interesting way to transport staff to your remote establishment? We want your best, brightest and most interesting innovations..
  1. Most popular hack
  • Each hack sits on a URL which allows us to measure the views on the page. This will be awarded to the Hack which had the most views throughout the duration of the Awards.
  1. Most creative hack (execution)
  • Awarded to the video submission with the most entertainment value as selected by Be the Business and the judging panel.
  1. Highest impact hack
  • This will be awarded to the hack which generated the most financial return for the business.
  1. Overall winner
  • The judges and Be the Business will select the simplest and most cost effective hack to implement as the overall winner.

Judging Guidelines

Judges will be instructed to assess the Entries in Categories 1 through 7 above against the following, using a numeric score between 0 and 10:

  1. Creativity / uniqueness of concept
  2. Potential costs to implement vs potential return
  3. Impact in the business reporting on the hack
  4. Is this hack scalable? I.e. will it apply in multiple hospitality businesses, or is it unique to the submitter’s business?

Prizes

For each category, Be the Business will award the individual who submitted the hack and the business they work for as follows:

  • A trophy
  • Inclusion in a 30 minute tv programme about Cornish Hospitality Hacks
  • Listed as a contributor in the Cornish Hospitality Hacks book
